Endo And Contraception.

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Abit of a broad question but;
What seems to be the most common form of contraception people are on that have stabilised or helped their endo in any way?
I’m considering the marina coil as I’ve been on pills for years.

Is there a doctor or nurse practitioner you call and ask these questions to? Or a doctor you can email? Like I said before, the depo shot stopped my symptoms and period completely. No pain, no period, no bloating. It might be a good option for you. There is a test they can do every couple of years to check your bone density to make sure it's not being affected. Regular birth control pills never helped me. I still had a severely heavy period lasting almost 3 weeks. I was going through a box of super plus tampons , plus pads every few days. It's a shot you can give yourself every 3 months. Or you can have the doctors office give it to you every 3 months. You don't have to remember to take a pill every single day at the same time. I've heard good and bad things about the mirena. I think it all just depends on what your body will tolerate. You won't really know for yourself until you try. I hope you find some relief soon!

Sorry to hear that I was hoping since my sex drive is already zero it wouldn't do anything but get better

That's so crazy. It completely stopped my period. The first 3 years were fine. But the last 2 I started having significant hair loss, my sex drive was at a zero. So I got off of it. I've been off of it for 14 months but my sex drive still hasn't returned, but I'm thinking that may have more to do with endo now. I'm pretty sure my hormones are still all out of whack.

The depo shot completely took my symptoms away.. But the risk associated with depo along with the side effects I had made me come off of it. It wasn't until I came off the depo that I realized I might have endo. Just do your full research on whatever method they are suggesting! Good luck!

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member When i first got the mirena coil i was on just that without any pill, it didnt seem to effect my sex drive which is good, and i found once it settled and my body got used it, my period stopped completely, when you first get it you probably will get cramping and bleeding for the first week or two as your body gets used it, but the cramps and bleeding should settle right down within the month, someone still get spottimg or the occasional period with a mirena and others like me will get nothing, everyone is different, if your bleeding doesn’t settle and stays heavy keep an eye on it and go back to your doctor if it concerns you. Being placed on the pill with the mirena is a type of hormone therapy, as i have severe stage 4 endo, so my doctor has been trying what he can to stop the rate my endo spreads at, hence the hormone therapy, everyone reacts differently to the mirena, but try not to think too much of the things that can go wrong because in my opinion the pros outweigh the potential cons of the coil
