Excision Surgery (cystectomy X2)

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello :)

I am wondering how long it took for people to go back to work after a cystectomy? I have a job at a hospital (desk job). Also, I am wondering if the scars fade after awhile? Are there large amounts of pain for an extended period of time after the surgery? I just learned I have surgery next week and although I was hoping and praying it would be soon I am at work and absolutely melting down with worry.

Are complications usual with this type of thing? How long am I going to be bedridden… read more

I would take some loose fitting clothes with you... I took a few teddies - but I admit I need them to sleep.... I mainly slept while I was in the hospital..

I had a hysterectomy -but my surgeon gave me a list of what I could and could not eat for a week or so after surgery and no lifting of anything over 10 pounds for about 2 months.

I haven't had a cystectomy so I can't answer that part but I have lots of scars and I will assure you that they fade with time. Most things are done laparoscopically and the incisions are very small.

Your doctor will be able to answer the specifics because each surgeon is slightly different and each case might be as well. I would expect pain but not "large amounts of pain". Despite not having that specific procedure, I'd guess at least 3-4 weeks before sex.

I ordered some fiber pills, Gas x, and asked for some of my boyfriends loose fitting clothes! Working on getting some meals prepared and having a little zen space in my bedroom for when I get home. I think I feel better having things to occupy my worry 😌

Lots of prayers. All the time. Scared? Pray on it. Sad? Pray on it. Anxious? Pray on it. Hopeful? Pray on it. Just keep the conversation going and keep the door open for strength to enter.

Have some music that always puts you in a good mood lined up on your phone. Also some funny or calming YouTube videos you can watch to pass the time in the waiting room.

Very easy to wear slide on flat shoes and a comfy short flowy or big t-shirt style dress to easily dress and undress without needing to manage closures or bend/reach/twist/pull.

Emergency contact and phone number list written on paper you can hand to someone to get help calling if you have any difficulty using your phone coming out of anesthesia.

Before you leave for the hospital have a cooler by your bed with water bottles, meal replacement drinks, a few snack bars, and some fresh fruit. You need to stay hydrated and pad your stomach for the medication schedule and you will want something in reach at all times. Almost prep like youre going camping in your bed for a few days.

You can totally do this!!!!!!

Yesss, Wolfie, yes! I think after my initial burst of freak out I'm starting to think of this as a really good thing. Once the recovery time over I'll be right as rain. Mind over matter, as they say.
