Kyleena For Endometriosis

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello! So, my OBGYN is telling me she thinks I have endometriosis with everything that’s been going on with my ovaries. She is recommending to have surgery to have the endo removed (I’ve had multiple vaginal ultrasounds done). She recommends I have the Kyleena 19.5 mg IUD implanted during surgery to help with this. There’s a few things I have read that states I should not use Kyleena if I have endometriosis. Does anyone have any resources that could help educate me on why I should not use… read more

IUD with progesterone is one of the treatments for Endo so I wouldn't be scared to try it !

For any IUD, it is something you just have to try. Some women can actually feel them, or the physical object in there exacerbates pain even if the hormones are treating the endo. Even if you didn't have endo, you might hate the IUD- it seems people either hate or love them, no in between. I have tried them twice and they made me incredibly irritable compared to birth control pills.

Hi Alyssa! I don't know anything of the Kyleena, but I just had excision surgery 3 weeks ago with an endo exicison specialist. My transvaginal ultrasound showed endometriomas on my ovaries, but my OBGYN did not have much experience with endo surgery. I live in SD and was referred over to the oncology dept for endo surgery. The nurse there said they hadn't had an endo patient for surgery in the few years she worked there. Not too comforting. I instead found an actual endo surgeon, since the presence of endometriomas means there is extensive endo. I encourage you to connect with an endo specialist if your obgyn doesn't have much knowledge about exicision surgery. If you have any questions about my experience, feel free to ask! Sending care!
