Fertility - Should I Be Worried About Having Kids?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all
I was recently told by a doctor that I should try to have children before I am 28 as the majority of endo patients she deals with (she works at an endometriosis clinic) have trouble after that. I was just wondering if any of you have found issues with fertility / miscarriages? What have your experiences been? Should I really be pushing to have kids by the age of 28? I am currently 23 so still a while but it would change a lot of how I'd have planned my life in the next 5 years
I do… read more

I had all my problems before that age!! I was told when I was 20 to go away and get pregnant and it would solve all my problems, can imagine can't you how well that went down, especially as I was single at the time! I had a laporscopy at about 22/23 where they removed my adhesions and then put me on male hormones for 6 months. My periods didn't return once I finished taking it and I ended up with polycycstic ovaries and warned that I might need help getting pregnant. I came off the pill when I was 27, split up with the person I was with and got back with my long-term partner from before, kept meaning to go to the Drs to go back into the pill and didn't and then found on guy fawkes night I was pregnant!! Had my son when I was 28. With my daughter I was trying for 9 months before I fell for her. Neither pregnancy was assisted by medical help, they just happened!! I think if the time is right for you and your partner than that's ok, but if your not ready yet, there is nothing really that says one age is better than another. It might be that those people she sees are those who have left it till then to have children and then been diagnosed whereas your already there and in the system so to speak. Good luck with whatever you decide xx

I am stage 4. I started trying in my early 30's. I was not able to conceive naturally and had to go the route of ivf. I was able to have one successful pregnancy via ivf. I have since had 2 miscarriages but they were not due to endo, i found out i have a gene mutation. It is honestly harf to say if you need to rush into having kids since every endo case is unique. I found out from my ivf dr that i have low ovarian reserve and bad egg quality due to having endo of my ovaries. So for me, yes endo plays a role iny ability to conceive.
