Mirena Coil Insertion Under General Anaesthetic, Normal?
I am about to get the mirena coil as other pills stopped being efficient. But will it work? And has any of you got it under general anaesthetic? I could not stand the sensation so the surgeon stopped hysterscopy snd coil insertion saying my only option was general anaesthetic. Really?!?! I thought one could have it uber vslium or something milder that general?!?! An I going mad or this surgeon cannot be bothered?
So my doctor said the trick is to do it right after your period comes because thats when the cervix is open the most-- then they gave me a drug that opens the membranes to make it easier to put in (and take out my old one) that I put in overnight and take out 1hr before the procedure. Additionally they gave me a pain killer to put in before and will give me pain killers there and afterwards she said. I'm doing it tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes and the name of the drug (if it works / is helpful). I know we all experience pain differently, but it can't hurt.
Also I don't think the epidural would hurt in comparison -- but only time I had an epidural was giving birth -- and then I was happy for it so I have no idea. But, I think asking for as much support in the pain management department is wise. Sometimes its like they forget to offer it, and once you ask you get a flood of different options.
Thanks! I just wanted to make sure it was a normal procedure..
My surgeon strongly recommends it under a general, you'll only sleep for 10 mins he said so hopefully you wouldn't feel too bad from the aneasthetic
That same thing happened to me pre-baby. Since I've given birth, they're able to give me a pain killer, a local, and some other medication that opens my cervix but they said only option pre-baby is epidural or anesthetic.
About the Mirena, my current GYN thinks it might have been the only thing keeping my Endo at bay post birth for 3 years. The pains back (in year 4) - so we're inserting a new one next week. I don't know if it will help (me or you) but it was the right option for me at this time.
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member — the pill she had me insert the night before unfortunately didn’t open my cervix so she had to manually open it — and after she got the coil in she accidentally clipped it. Lots of blood.
It was a little uncomfortable, a pinch of pain, and then pain killers for 2 days with a little cramping. Compared to Endo cramping it was nothing. Uncomfortable and sore but not excruciating.
Good luck!
