Is Anyone Suffering From Bad Depression From Hormone Treatment?
I have been on hormones to stop periods and attempt to get rid of most of the pain from Endometriosis and PCOS. Although it has helped the pain substantially I have never felt more depressed in my life. When I say I cry everyday, I mean everyday. I go from a major high to an all time low, then get angry! 😢It's really starting to affect my relationship. Am thinking about coming off them and back on pain management but am terrified that I will then loose my job, the one thing that makes me get up… read more
That's really difficult when it's hormones controlling your mood! I took clomid (fertility drug) for a couple years and completely lost myself. When I stopped taking it, I only then realised how negative I had become and how long it had been since I had laughed.
Because it's a hormonal imbalance causing low mood for you, I wonder if your GP can prescribe SSRI antidepressants alongside the hormone therapy? Maybe not, they might interact with each other.
Often recommendations for low mood are around self cares, mindfulness etc, but it is so so so hard when it is a biological cause.
Definitely good to vent to like minded people! We hear you and we care :)
Some months ago, I was on Visanne which got rid of my period while I was on it and thus I did not experience the hell pain flareups I would have with my period. However the hormones made me homicidal and I had to stop it. I am now on the anti inflammatory diet, and during my period I have horrible pain but not as bad as when I was on a regular diet. I take ketorolac for the pain but aware of the damage it does to the body. I took only two on my last period which is a great improvement. I am planning on trying the cbd oil (fyi it’s quite an expense) to replace the pain killer.
I become depressed often to the point of suicidal every time my hormones are messed with. Doctors never believed me when I reported this but a year or two ago the drug companies finally fessed up that the BC drugs do in fact cause depression and mood swings. It's now listed as a side effect. I wish I could take them to control endo symptoms but what I always tell my doctor is that I can handle the physical pain much better than the emotional anguish.
