Getting Back Up

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a rough go this period complete with pain, vomiting, etc. I also had a family friend die this week, so extra stress with that. I’m in training and ended up crying in front of some of the Trainers. I’m embarrassed that I can’t handle my Endo and struggle with feeling that I’m not in control of my body. I go back to training on Monday. What do you do after a bad Endo episode to mentally reset yourself?

I have been trying out Mindful Mondays to keep me grounded. I use a breathing meditation and I limit myself to just 15 minutes every Monday. I try to keep myself mindful of the fact that a lot of my health is unfortunately out of my control and to just enjoy the moments where I am not in pain. Sometimes I am too mentally off to meditate, but I just try again the next day.

I also think it is also so important to check in with yourself- which is what I try to do on
Fridays. I ask myself three things:

What am I proud of this week?
What am I looking forward to?
What do I have coming up that I can prioritize doing when I feel good? What is on my #laterlists?-This allows me to plan events or complete projects while I do feel okay, and also allows me to take the time I need to rest. I sort of get a control by allowing myself more time to complete my tasks AND having control is something we lack with endo so it feels good to drive the wheel sometimes.

Best of luck- it is a constant struggle!

I sometimes document (on an app or piece of paper) about my struggles, and sometimes I remind myself that not every day has been this bad, and there will be better days ahead.
As far as losing it at work..I have been there!! I usually apologize and tell people it's been a rough day, I need coffee...etc.

Rest! I cannot stress this enough. Don't try to do so much once the storm is over. I am usually in bed drinking soup and plenty of liquids to build my strength back up. I also meditate. Hope you're feeling better.

I “let” myself have a big cry, which is easily accomplished by the exhaustion and 10-15 days of pain and lack of sleep. (Let’s be honest you’re just trying to hold it together during the exacerbation or I do). Then I rest, sleep, meditate, and pray with gratitude that I likely have a good 2-4 weeks ahead. Next step for me is being as productive and joyful with work, child and life as soon as I’m caught up on sleep. I’m just coming off a 15 day run of Endo pain and so excited to go for an outdoor easy hike with my kiddo this weekend!
