Has Anyone Ever Done A Transvaginal Ultrasound, Specifically For Endo?
ok so this might go into TMI but I just wanted to ask if anyone here has ever done a specific ultrasound for Endo which is a transvaginal one? I have an appointment to do one on Tuesday and its my first one ever.
I have to have a laxative and an enema before the appointment and I've never done anything like that before, I'm quite nervous about the whole entire thing. So if anyone here has ever done ANY of this before, I would like to know if its uncomfortable or any thing like that. Thanks.
I’ve had many transvaginal ultrasounds as well as ultrasounds. For ultrasounds I had to drink a lot of water and hold. For TV I was allowed to pee and then it was performed. I didn’t have to do any other preparation.
With ultrasounds, the doctors can see if you have cysts and by the density most likely what type. They can also see if a cyst has recently ruptured as there may be a lot of fluid.
Here is some more information about preparation and also DIE deep infiltrating endometriosis.

I am glad I saw your question as I have learnt a little bit more about ultrasounds today.
I just had one done recently and this was my second one. Both times I had a regular ultrasound as well. They diagnose the Endo better with the transvaginal. Now with that one it is better to have an empty bladder but I never had to take an enema or laxative right before, only had to go pee. But as far as the actual procedure goes, it's painless and way more comfortable than a annual pap.
I have had four-- two at my doctor's office and two at hospitals (one was scheduled outpatient, the other was in the ER). I had a bit of minor discomfort, probably in part because I had a huge cyst they were scanning, but it wasn't super painful or anything like that. I did find that I had less discomfort at my doctor's office because her tech does those daily, whereas the techs at hospitals do all kinds of scans. Another difference is that at the hospitals, they did an external ultrasound on my lower abdomen first, whereas my doctor just did the transvaginal, so I imagine that varies at each place. The techs always kept me very respectfully draped except for when they actually inserted or removed the probe or whatever it's called-- I never felt like my genitals were on display or anything, if that makes sense. You may already know that ultrasounds and other types of imaging very rarely show endo, but hopefully the scan is helpful in whatever your doctor is looking to evaluate. Good luck!
I had a transvaginal ultrasound before my laparoscopic surgery. It didn't really hurt at all, since the wand is well lubricated. I didn't have to have a laxative or enema, so that's odd that they're asking you to, but I did have to drink a lot of water and had to be sure my bladder was full. The ultrasound tech told me that the liquid in the bladder helps conduct the waves better. Cool! I asked the tech if I could watch on the monitor and if she could explain what we were seeing, so that was fun! The biggest bummer was that after I went in and did the ultrasound, they made me redo it a week later. They wanted to see the thickness of my endometrial lining at a different part of my cycle.
I had a transvaginal and tummy ultrasound. I don’t know which one helped figure out I had endo, but I think it was the tummy one.
