If Endo Is On Your Bowels Does That Automatically Mean It’ll Also Be Down Lower In Your Pelvis Like Your Ovaries Etc?
Hi everyone. This is my first time posting. I’m going in for my first lap on Wednesday and it’s acually to remove a cyst, my left ovary as well as both tubes. My gynecologist also said she would look for any Endo and remove any she sees but she’s not going to be “combing my bowels”. I have not been formally diagnosed with endometriosis yet but I have a feeling it is all over my bowels. I have been having lots of symptoms for a few years but it’s gotten down right unbearable the last almost year… read more
@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member...Your post is very disconcerting from my perspective. I realize what you are saying in that you are hurting and need relief. PLEASE do not let your pain cloud your good judgment.
If you think there is any "chance" of endo on your bowels, DO NOT allow this person to perform your surgery AT ALL. You could actually be worse off post-surgery. Trust me.
There are ladies here who have lived your experience (I'm one). Each of us was desperate for intervention/pain relief. Each of us regret allowing "non-specialists" perform surgery. Our haste caused us to have multiple surgeries. Don't let that be you=0
This surgeon is already telling you that she won't "comb your bowels". I'm guessing this means that she has no intention of examining the length of your bowel for endo. It sounds as though she does not possess the skill to excise endo from the bowel.
It's your body and your decision, but NO WAY in hell I'd proceed with surgery on Wednesday. Please find a vetted endo specific surgeon (list on Nancy's Nook FB page). A qualified surgeon can excise the endo lesions from most organs including your bowel. He/she will have a team of surgeons in theatre to address whatever they find.
The only thing worse than how you feel today would be feeling MUCH WORSE post-surgery. You won't be happy waking to hear that "little was done/more surgery needed".
There is no "fast track" to healing with this evil disease, sadly. A bad surgeon can totally derail your life.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member thank you so much for your response. I understand totally what you’re saying. I don’t think my gynecologist is going to do anything that she doesn’t feel qualified to do. What I mean is, even if she just removes the cyst and ovary and is able to diagnose me with Endo ( I told her I suspect I have Endo and even especially Endo on my bowels) I feel that could fast track me seeing a specialist. I am suffering. I can’t live like this. Every appointment that leads me in the wrong direction and takes weeks and weeks to get in to is delaying me a diagnosis and in turn a proper treatment. I’m just hoping that she’s able to easily see it. I want this to be over.
Whoops, I meant most of my symptoms are left* sided. I ran out if room to say anything else but what I’m saying is if I have bad bad Endo do you think my gyno couldn’t miss it on my lap on Wednesday? She’s not a specialist but at the VERY least I’m hoping she can get me on a faster track to healing. I can’t take it anymore.
