Hi. So I have not had a lap yet but I met with a specialist who believes I do indeed have endo. I am a college student and i hate missing class but sometimes i find that i push myself so hard that i get overwhelmed and dont know how to ask for things i need. I also dont know how to approach my professors in person and explain that sometimes i am in pain in class and that it may affect how i pay attention or the work i do.

Also I work at restaurant. I love my job as a hostess but im on my feet… read more

Speakendo is a great website with a lot of info and tips including how to tell people in your life about endo and your pain. It helped my family understand better.

My pain started my 2nd year of college and I told no one and skipped class whenever I was hurting and it was a terrible idea. Eventually I reached out to my professors and explained what was going on and they were so understanding. It's better to let people know and try to make that effort because if they won't accommodate you it's easier to go above their heads if you've made that effort.

Yes , definitely tell your professors. In uni I volunteered to take notes for those who’ve missed class orncouldnt take notes due to a health reason . That way if you miss class there might be a way to get notes and not fall behind. they never know who they’re taking notes for it is anonymous , hopefully your school does this!

I would honestly consider working a different job or seeing if your boss will let you use a stool at the hostess station. When I worked in a restaurant it really put a wrench in things form the pain i would feel after shifts.

If you can get a letter from your doctor describing your pelvic pain, even without a formal diagnosis, you can register with disability services at your school. You can then give your professors paperwork without them knowing the full details of your pain if you don't want them to know.
