Prep For/Recovery From 1st Laparoscopic Surgery
Hello Everyone,
I've read through a few threads regarding this already (thank you all for so much useful information) but wondered if anyone had any experience specifically with using activated charcoal capsules to help better absorb the gas in the first week of recovery? I saw this mentioned as hugely helpful in a few youtube videos and blogs. Any other updated recovery tips, etc. are greatly appreciated, as well!
Thank you ALL in advance and wishing us all some relief.
If you have someone responsible to be in charge of your pain meds it will help greatly. You may not remember what the dr/nurse recommends following surgery, if your caretaker can be there to be informed and help you, including setting alarms, it will help. Don't let the pain get too bad.
It gets better. Gas-x works for me, just make sure it doesn't interact with any of your meds by asking your dr or I go to drugs.com interactions checker. Just do your best to see what works for you. Light walking helps when you're ready. Hold a pillow to tummy when coughing, sneezing, farting.
I don't know about the charcoal helping pain but it could definitely block absorption of oral pain meds.
I seen a segment about people ingesting charcoal,Dr.didn't recommend.
Honestly REST. I made the mistake of being nervous and acting like I never had surgery. I regret it. I wish I would care for my body like a plant. Just rest and do some deep breathing exercises. Take time to allow your body to heal. I wouldn’t focus so much on the charcoal stuff. Let your body heal as it naturally should and you will be ok.
Over-the-counter chewable gas relief tablets really helped after open surgery in April 2018. I had no problems after laparoscopic surgery - just be sure to set alarms to take meds every 4 hours at night. Second night I forgot and woke up screaming.
