Getting Off Birth Control

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Siloam Springs, AR

I've been taking birth control (pill form) for 14 years for pain management. I'm wanting to get off the pill because 1. I've been taking it for half my life and want to know what it feels like to have my body not on any medication 2. My husband and I are considering starting a family before too long.

What kind of effects did you ladies feel when stopping birth control? Do you just stop automatically or wean yourself off? Should I consult my gynecologist? -Help!

I would consult with your doc as a heads up, but ultimately I don’t think you would need to wean yourself off. I took it for years and stopped cold turkey once we got married two years ago and never looked back. I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference, other than my periods went back to being longer and more irregular, but no crazy side effects. Just my experience. πŸ™‚

It was a long time ago for me, I was diagnosed with Thyriod issues not long after, keep an eye out for this, as it seems to be a problem with BC. I also had severe acne for years, nothing seemed to help, probably for 4 years... eventually I decided to go on a natural diet and that seemed to have helped the acne go away.

Recently they tried to put me back on Yaz, it wasnt the end of the world, no Libido and migraines. only 1 month.

Then on Qlaira for two days, I was so depressed I had so stop in the fear that I will do something stupid.

Good Luck xx

You can just stop it as far as I am aware. There shouldn't be any scary side effects. Just the usual hormone change, bleeding and probably a lot of cramps
I would go to your doctor and get some painkillers before hand tbh. Just in case. And they will need to know you are doing it as well. x πŸŽ—οΈπŸ’›
