Laparoscopy Pre-op And Post-op Tips?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Taylor Mill, KY

I'm going for my pre-op tomorrow and my diagnostic lap is on March 14th. I'm trying to make sure I get everything I will need for recovery, surgery, etc. so that I will be prepared. What are your suggestions for pain, food, drinks, etc.??

Pre surgery I was supposed to do an at-home enema the night before. Yikes. I stuck to soups and easily digested foods prior to this so that I could have an easier time with this process.

You might not want to do it, but walk. Walk every day post surgery and it will help with the recovery and relieve some of the post-surgical gas pains some experience. I experienced it as shoulder pain and it was very uncomfortable.

They will give you pain meds as @A MyEndometriosisTeam Member said. I used them the night I got home and that was it for me. I didn't react well to them so for me, dealing with the pain was easier than dealing with the reaction to the pain killers.

Make sure you request the reports after your surgery. Take a close look at your pathology report and surgical reports once you get them. I was told that for each excision performed, meaning every piece of endo they cut out, there should be a corresponding pathology report. So for example, if they cut out like.. 15 pieces of endo, there should be 15 pathology items. This is something I learned recently by one of the best endo surgeons in the country. She said that we need to look for this in the reports because if the pathology is missing, it could indicate that the dr didn't excise everything.

I really hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

Just lots of water. Don't do carbonated drinks until the CO2 gas has passed. The carbonation only makes it worse. Tums helped to ease that pain for me. That was the worst feeling. They give you pain meds. Take them the first night after getting home so you can sleep. The first day or two I didn't really have an appetite. I suggest toast, soup, fruit. Anything simple you can stomach.

Is the band something that I might be able to ask the doctor for or should I just order it from Amazon?

Yes to the band! Your stomach will be so sore. I had to have someone take a pillow and gently squeeze it against my stomach even when I went to the bathroom because I felt like all my insides were going to fall out. SneeIng or laughing was the worst ha. And also ice. Heat makes the inflammation worse. Best of luck! You'll do great

I got a lot of relief from ice packs, seemed to help with the bloating.
