First Gyno Appointment, What Should I Expect?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Cardiff, UK

It's nearly 5am and I can't sleep, I'm stressing so bad. I have my first ever appointment with a gynecologist this afternoon and I'm so nervous. I don't know what to expect. I've never gone for the tests they like you to do every.. actually i have no idea, few years? Smear i think? I've never 'been with' anyone and would have been too embarrassed to anyway. So I've never gone through anything like this.

I am so deeply ashamed of my weight and on the one occasion i worked up the courage to let… read more

No worries, you are not the first to be nervous. Just write down all your symptoms and questions so that when you are too nervous to remember you’ll have something to reference. For mine, since my symptoms were so bad she did an exam. Pressed on area to see if they were tender. She also checked my uterus to see the placement and size. To do this she had to place a hand inside and press on top... maybe yours will be different. When i saw mine about endometriosis i had recently switch insurance and so she had to do a Pap smear as well. Yours might just be a sit down to talk about the Possible endo. Just remember to breath and remind yourself why you’re there. And don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re taking the steps to better understand your health and work on it. You can’t do that if you don’t allow the doc to do her thing. And you Are always going to be your worse critic. But to others you’re probably more beautiful than you will ever allow yourself to feel or to believe. Good luck at your appointment and remember to breathe! And don’t allow her or him to make you feel it’s all in your head!

If dr doesn't believe you, you find another dr. I changed drs 5 times until I found my current dr

There could be a number of things as well. With hormonal imbalances and even low thyroid issues. Low thyroid means slower metabolism. Which makes it easier for our body to gain weight because our body does not metabolize our foods fast enough... And/or Sometimes it’s also that you’re starving your body too much in that it feels what little nutrition it is getting it needs to conserve because it does not know when the next meal will come so instead of turning the food into fuel it’ll store it as fat. Fruits and veggies are great to have but make sure you also get some protein in as well. And most fruits are sugar... Idk about anyone else but I’ve found that too much sugar flares up my endo and puts me in more pain... but ask her if she’ll run some labs and check your levels. It can give some extra information.

They literally can't diagnose endo on a scan. Hopefully you get a diagnoses so you can know what's going on with your body. I also tried to lose weight and found out I had cysts that secreted hormones?? Um.. they ruptured and I instantly lost weight but got a massive infection .. i would try to tell her everything and not be embarrassed. You are so much more than your weight . Weight does not define your worth. You are a strong, brave woman battling a disease. I went from 100 pounds to 180😪😪 I literally could not lose weight. I relate to your post so much . People were seen to me and I was struggling so much with pain and fatigue. Let's stick together and stay strong. (( hug ))

Unfortunately endo can make you gain weight like crazy sometimes. For others it causes weight loss. I am a weight gain person. I am slowly working at weight loss. If you don't already have it, myfitnesspal is a great diet app. It is also free so no worries there! I think it's better than noom and other things like that because it allows for a normal life style and takes into account your activity level and everything. For me it reccomends 1750 calories a day to lose weight. And i realized I was eating way more than I thought. But 1750 doesn't make me starve. So it's nice.
