Outside Of Medication, How Do You Manage Pain?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I have a lot of pain during my ovulation. My doctor was confused because she said that women with endo usually have more pain during periods. Is this true? I have the most pain during ovulation. I get flare ups during the rest of the month and especially if I exert myself. It's to the point where I can't get out of bed. I get stomach aches because of pain medication. I am trying to find ways to get around it. Relaxing my muscles seems to help. Warm baths. Light small meals that fit within the… read more

Yes I feel the pain around ovulation too. Heat, CBD lotion (as to be at least 1000mg for effective pain relief), walking if i have the energy (because of the post workout endorphins. Also helps clear my head.)

As i was reading,im thinking to myself...yep. I do that. And that and that. Mhm...that too. Stress is a HUGE factor, so i was happy to see you awknowledge that!!

Sometimes, my pain disapates the first week after my period ends and the rest of the month is horrid. Other times it comes and goes.

I do cold packs on my abdomen...or where ever the pain is.

Also, i do what I call stripper grinding while i clean the kitchen. Giving no cares and making sure to alternate between sticking your back and your front out like a cat in heat and gyrating away. It really stretches and relaxes my muscles. *when only my uterus is whats bothering me i wont do this.*It relieves the tightness in my tailbone and sometimes it relieves the tight feeling of if i were to wear a pair of too small of leggings and the tight band is sitting on my rib cage or surrounding area. It also relieves my right arm/shoulder pain and numbness.

Then wake up about 2 hours before having to go to work or before my kids wake up, when its my week to have them. So i can roll around in pain. Which can be so intense, it forces me to get sick.

Im not a fan of scripts. Except for my migraines and muscle relaxers. Even then, i try other methods like high mgs of CBD or essential oils before taking Naproxen. My meds are a last resort.

I prefer to use a hot water bottle at night. I also take pain relief medication when it gets really bad. Have you tried using a tens machine or not? That can help to alleviate the pain. Light exercise helps me as well. I haven't tried depo yet however. I am going to visit a gynaecologist next week to discuss my other options.

That's a hard question to answer. I haven't been formally diagnosed with endo. I cannot afford insurance but make to much for assistance. My doctor and I talked after having an ultrasound done. I have all the symptoms, check all the boxes and have ruled out other possibilities. She said the only way to diagnose endo is through surgery at a hospital which I cannot afford. Even if I was diagnosed it would be treated with birth control. So why don't we try birth control before moving on to more expensive procedures. It makes sense but puts me in a limbo of sorts. I guess I am going to be a guinea pig until we find the right birth control. We tried a pill with no luck. Second up is nuvaring. I am not so keen about the depo, but does it help?
