Lupron Depot
Hey, have any of you been on the Lupron Depot injections? Curious to know how it went. Had a Hysterectomy about 3 weeks ago. I was told that endo was everywhere and it had all been removed only a few months prior, because of that the doctor's that did the surgery are really pushing medications to try to slow it from coming back. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Only got Zoladex 1000mg for 3 months injected through my belly. Helped alot for the pain
Hi, i took Lupron injections 3 months prior to my surgery ( had right ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cysts) and continued additional 3 months after. I didn’t have much side effects from Lupron- just hot flashes but was prescribed progesterone and it eased dyscomfort. Lupron can cause osteoporosis when taken longer than 6 months so calcium of 1000mg highly recommended. Hope that helps!
I did 2 months of lupron depo shot prior to an IVF cycle and it made a significant difference in suppressing the endo and allowing my ovaries to perform much better. I had an incredible amount of pain relief and also did not have to get into a weird position for bowel movements for the first time in over a year. The menopause symptoms are tough - night sweats, hot flashes and some mood swings… but I actually still felt those symptoms were better than my norm. I did have a lot of spotting/clotting/light bleeding, about 6/8 weeks as well. The first few weeks endo symptoms may worsen, but will improve after that. I was on 1mg estrace daily and movisse 2 days on 2 days off as “hormonal addback”. Both my surgeon and reproductive endocrinologist have said with the hormonal addback, bone density is not a concern and you could be on it longer than 6 months. None of the treatments are ideal, but depending on your symptoms etc this is a good option for some.
I was on Lupron for six months after my first surgery for the same reason. It really sucked for me. I had hot flashes (get some handheld fans) but worse was the mood swings and memory loss. My whole personality changed while I was on it. It also didn’t help my pain levels at all.
It’s debated in the medical community whether it slows endo growth, but I had surgery again about a year after my first due to a dermoid cyst and to remove bowel endo not removed the first time and there wasn’t much new growth so there was evidence it did help.
I will say I wouldn’t take it again but did find reduced pain and minimal side affect with Orlissa. Those who says it’s just Lupron in a pill don’t understand the main differences between an antagonist and an agonist.
Yes my doctor is adding norethindrone acetate along with the shots. I'm supposed to be on it for a year. I'm glad to hear you didn't have too hard of with side effects. Will be getting calcium. Thank you!
