Menopause And Endo Symptoms
Hello. Anyone menopausal and still having pain? My doctor is convinced that at 51 my endo pain will decline soon and took me off my Norethindrone daily maintenance and Mirena IUD. Crashed and had severe cramps for 3 days. Still having pain in my right side. Hoping the doctor is right, but after 30 years of dealing with pain (post a confirming laparascopy surgery in my 20s), I still feel dismissed and unheard. Thank you.
Hi, I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. Sending you big hugs! I wonder, since the confirming laparoscopy, did your doctor or any other surgeon excise the endometriosis lesions that were seen? Or did they do any imaging (pelvic MRI, pelvic/ transvaginal ultrasound) to check for any endometriomas or adenomyosis that might be causing your pain?
Though I'm almost 47 and not menopausal yet, my doctor (a gynecological surgeon) highly recommended I get a hysterectomy due to stage 4 endometriosis and a large endometrioma on my ovary. So I did that about 8 weeks ago along with excision of the lesions and feel like a new person. She said menopause helps some women, but not all. Menopause can happen in different ways at different ages, and can bring relief, but I wonder if a second opinion or some imaging or tests can help clarify what's happening in there. A second opinion definitely seems to be in order if you are not feeling heard! You deserve to feel supported.
Thank you. I will look into a second opinion and research gynecological surgeons in my area (San Francisco). It's been a tough road to get a good recommendation.
