Is A Laparoscopy Surgery Worth It?
After reading a lot of people’s stories on here, I’m starting to doubt getting the surgery from seeing so many women having more problems after surgery than before. I really want to be able to have a baby and I do have “simple” and “complex” ovarian cyst that go up and down in size also they said I have “endometriomas” on my ovaries through MRI at my first hospital stay last November. Im not sure if those are the ones that grew into the complex cyst I have now? I’m so confused now with all my… read more
For me my laparoscopy was the best decision I've ever made for my health. It's different for everyone, but it can also just provide a lot of relief finally having a diagnosis and knowing where the Endo is growing and the level of disease. I also had an cyst/endometrioma that was removed and Endo growing near my bowel & culdesac which provided a lot of bowel relief for me. My Lap excision surgery has provided a lot of relief for me, and of course it's not perfect I still manage a lot of Endo symptoms and pain, but my periods aren't debilitating anymore, I'm not on any birth control at all, my skin is clearer, my bowel movements don't hurt anymore. My bladder still gives me trouble but I think that's my potential IC. Ultimately it's up to you and I also feared it would make things worse- but it's been almost 9 months and I feel better than I have in 15 years. If you find a qualified surgeon that you feel is skilled and knowledgeable enough absolutely ask them 1,000 questions for your consult with all of your concerns. They are there for YOU. 🖤
A diagnostic laparoscopy and or excision surgery for endometriosis can actually help your fertility, as endometriosis often contributes to infertility. The caveat here is that you go to an endometriosis expert who specifically does excision surgery and that you make your fertility wishes clear and discuss how to move forward. They would hopefully do more imaging and discuss the cysts, which can often be drained/removed while protecting the ovaries or managed other ways. For the bowel issue, I've had problems with obstruction/narrowing due to endometriosis and my gyno surgeon brought in a gastro surgeon who they collaborate with. Treating these issues does not necessarily impact your future fertility negatively, and can help you manage this disease and the pain and find a treatment that fits with what you want for your body and your future. I know it's scary sometimes to hear other people's unsuccessful stories or only see the bad reviews etc, but there are so many successful stories too! I hope you find a doctor that you like and can work with so you feel good no matter what you decide to do.
I had laparoscopic ablation surgery every three-5 months for two years. I had a lot of relief for about a month or 2. which considering my situation was a big deal. After the last procedure The doctor said I was too advanced. I now have to go to. A women’s health specialist down at IU. She said with the ovarian cyst the uterine fibroids, the cervical cancer, and the endometriosis at the stage that is, I can no longer do them
