I Am Having Excision Surgery Friday. What Are Some Good Pre And Post Op Tips? What Are Things I Should Bring To The Hospital?

I would bring as little as possible in to the hospital. For me that was the clothes I was wearing, my glasses, and my wallet (including photo ID, insurance, and payment), and a snack. Anything more is just something more for the nurses to keep track of. I would pack everything you might need, but leave almost all of it in the car. That being said... here are my additions to Anita's excellent list:

- A pillow to protect the abdomen for the car ride home! That seatbelt across my lap was really painful.

- I had a lot of painful gas bubbles in my shoulders and back after surgery. I was lucky enough to have an amazing helper to build mounds of pillows for me to get my hips elevated. So add a pillow throne to the post op list!

- If you have food allergies, bring a snack that you can eat after surgery. They wouldn't release me until I ate something. I have celiacs, so I brought gluten-free animal crackers.

- If you have a healthcare power of attorney or living will, bring them.

- Bring any meds that you're normally taking in their original bottles, in case there are any questions about dosing or you need them at some point.

- Dresses! I went back to work at my office job a few days after my surgery (too soon!), but pants were not an option for quite some time. Make sure you have a handful of cute and comfortable dresses for when you have to go face the world again.

Best of luck with the procedure! I hope it brings you some much deserved relief.

Hi I've had 2 ops 1 diagnoses and other to remove cysts and adhesions. I took with me
Pjs (bigger baggy)
Knickers (comfys)
Sanitary towels (nothing worse than hospital big ones)
Flip flops
Dressing gown (or baggy cardigan to come home)
Hair bobble/brush
Phone charger (in case kept over)
Book/mags(wait before op)
Perfume/spray
Lip gloss (tin vaseline)
Throat lozenges (maybe sore after tubes)

I advice getting packed ready day before so can get up grab and go.
After op take it easy I came home thought I feel great doing of bits then pain relief wore off.

Thanks. This is my second procedure but I went into the first one a little blindly and felt a little unprepared. Thanks for the tips!
