Is Diaphragmatic Endometriosis Really That Rare? Does Anyone Else Have Chest Pain, Tightness Or Shortness Of Breath With Period?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Seattle, WA

Around that time of the month I get heartburn/chest pain, upper back/shoulder/neck pain. It's weird, I will have tightness and get short of breath, or have a cough. It's almost like a mild asthma type thing, only I know its not. Always around my period and ovulation.. My pelvic floor physical therapist mentioned the diaphragmatic endometriosis and now I am scared and wondering is it really that rare?? Does anyone have experience with this or know anything about it? I keep reading that it's not… read more

bless your heart...youre definitely not crazy, but i understand the thought lol you know your body!
The endo tissue is going to act as it would in the uterus, no matter where in the body it is, swelling and bleeding every month, and may even form adhesions and scar tissue. Theres not a whole lot of extra room in our bodies, so any swelling or added fluid in a place where it cant escape is going to be painful!! And yes its pretty dang rare as endo usually attaches to things closer to home...ovaries, cervix, etc... but can definitely travel up that far, even farther like the brain and even the skin...i cant even imagine having it on my brain.... So feel validated in that! But thoracic and diaphrag endo are definitely real...although the fluid or any defects are of course more likely to be seen on scans than the endo will, so as with "normal" endo the only way to really diagnose it is taking a look around in there with a scope (thoracoscopy). Have you had "normal" endo surgeries? Endo tissue can travel through things like the lymphatic system, among others. Im a nerd and read the medical journals and surgeon reports lol heres one case study that may help, although you may need to look up some of the terminology if you arent too familiar! let us know what you find out! Hang in there! XoXo

My scan 2 years ago reported spots on the diaphragm. I experienced chest pain recently even though nothing was found connected to it but i believe it was side effect of the hormonal drug i took(Lola) because it stopped when i stopped the medication. I sometimes feel some heartburn but not often. It disappears once i take Gaviscon.

Oh gosh I hope it didn't knock something loose and travel to my chest lol! Is that even possible? I hope not, I will just stick with the crazy diagnosis, or maybe it's just referred pain Idk. "Jacked up" pelvic floor how rude! I don't like that term. I think you just need some work, and don't we all... So are you going to continue with it then? By the way I must add bladder and bowel drama sounds like the story of my life. Not fun! Sounds like you have a good crew of Dr's.
Good for you!!

Good for you tracking your symptoms! Girl just Google endo....i got sidetracked at work lol mines bad but is cut out before it looks like something from a horror movie....i know what mine looks like, and feels like... so idk how people deal with some of the things I saw for the amount of time it took them to get THAT big 😵😲 geez louise...
#Nicole91 I wonder if your surgery "knocked something loose" and it traveled to your chest? Bottom line is it's there (probably) HOWEVER it got there lol I've been through...still going through....the bladder and bowel drama, but I think I've said that lol ...I lucked out and my GI & Urologist are in the same hospital as my pelvic pain guru and they actually communicate! So nice when your doctors actually discuss your case with eachother..... I so hope pelvic PT helps you....2 therapists both came to the conclusion that it made mine worse, of course.
Is it bad when your doctor uses the term "jacked up" when describing your pelvic floor?
🤔🤣😭

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member Thanks for the links! I enjoyed the website. Sometimes I think ignorance is bliss lol. Not really it just gives me anxiety sometimes to think of how complex this disease is and how bad it can get.
