These Questions Are For Anyone Living In New York State.
Question #1: Were you able to find an endo specialist? If so, where? I live in upstate NY.
Question #2: Where can I go if all I have is HMO coverage? Have any of you with this insurance had any luck finding providers?
I have exhausted so many options over this past year trying to find a specialist STILL working in NYS! I have even followed the doctor map from the endometriosis forum on reddit. All the doctors I call covered by my insurance are either about to leave the state or left already! I⦠read more
Hi! I am in NYC and was able to find an excision specialist. Due to the severity of my case, I traveled out of state to the CEC in Atlanta.
What are the names of the doctors you saw or were going to see?
The excision specialists I know are in NYC. Some take insurance. Dr. Elizabeth Poynor is one. She's my GYN and I adore her. She also performs excision.
Please be in touch with me. I want to be able to help you.
I live in Alabama the question ππΏββοΈ to the person that stays in New York, my surgery will be performed in Chattanooga Tennessee by Dr. Robert Furr (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) heβs an excision specialist and yes he does take insurance and itβs one more doctor that I know of in Atlanta that does take insurance his name is Dr. Nicholas Kohogoasd (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) I choose Dr. Furr the things that he will be doing in me are: Appendectomy, Bladder Installation, Cystoscopy, Excision of Endo, Hydrodistention, Lysis of Adhesion, and Presacral Neurectomy.
I live in Albany area. My insurance covered Dr. Malcolm Mackenzie in Cambridge Mass. Check if your insurance will cover him. If so, he is the best in the country in my opinion and many others. His associates that he has trained are also excellent and he just opened his Endo Center also in Mass. My sister and I have exhausted all the Upstate NY doctors and downstate also. They are a waste of time and money.
Hey, there - tough question, so I don't pretend to have easy answers. I am also from Upstate NY, although I did not have your insurance. I think I was waiting on the same doc out of Rochester that you were, at one point. I did wind up having extensive surgery with Dr. Lora Liu in NYC and can recommend her without reservations and have had good outcomes. However, she herself was not a participating provider with my insurance. The hospital was, as was the anesthesiologist, etc. But my understanding from my time doing research (albeit in a very foggy state, because guess what chronic pain and inflammation does to your mind, amirite?) was that *most* endo specialists do not participate as a provider with insurances. This is not because they are money driven, but because most insurances say that an endo surgery should be half an hour (mine was 4 hours). It's simply not feasible to keep the lights on when you are being paid for 1/8th of the time you are actually putting into something. As a result, I didn't go looking for a specialist who participated with my insurance; I went looking for a specialist who I felt safe with and like we had similar values and understandings of the disease. Also as a result, I am still paying on my surgeon fees payment plan. And since I'm currently not employed, I'm not gonna pretend that a monthly payment plan is my idea of super-cool-fun-good-idea, but I *will* say that the surgery with Dr. Lora Liu effectively gave me my life back and I am no longer looking at a life of permanent disability. Without that surgery, I would still be in the fully dependent state I was for the last 4 months leading up the surgery. I'm not gonna candy-coat it: you're in a bind and don't really have a "good choice," and it unreservedly sucks. But I don't regret my decision to have surgery with Dr. Lora Liu, and honestly, I don't regret my payment plan either. For me, it was 100% worth it.
They are certainly used to people trying to figure out how to pay for things. For me, and for my sister, and now a friend, Dr. Lora Liu was willing to do telehealth consultations, and she and her office are willing to talk quite openly about how to arrange payment. My sister and I both had different insurances, and different arrangements, and it I think my friend has a different insurance (and different) arrangement yet. So don't take my word for how things will go, but also I would encourage you not to hesitate to call. If after speaking with/consulting with Dr. Liu, you feel that you would like to have surgery performed by her, talk about your options. You can't make an informed decision without information.
Hope that is helpful for in some measure!
