Has Anyone With Radical Autoimmune Issues Tried An IUD?

A MyEndometriosisTeam Member asked a question 💭
Dacula, GA

I have horrific autoimmune issues with my thyroid, endometriosis, and likely adenomyosis. I already have daily cramps, abnirmal bleeding, and a fever 4 days out of the week. Plus, 90% of my hair has fallen out. I'm in the ER almost monthly with awful pelvic and abdominal pain. I think an IUD could come near to quite literally killing me.

Every year as long as I can remember I’ve asked for an immune system for Christmas. So sad....

I had non hormonal IUDs for years but eventually my body pushed them out. I had a hormonal IUD for six weeks - six weeks too long. I never stopped bleeding. My cramping got worse. Bloated, nauseas, depressed...it wasn’t for me. But every body is different!

Nah, it doesn't hurt at all compared to the way it hurt for them to insert it.

@A MyEndometriosisTeam Member what brand do you have? Have you talked with your doc about it? I went in to my doc at the time and told him, "Take this every loving thing out of me now." and he said, "Get your legs in the stirrup and I will!" Just like that, a bit of a pinch and boom! Gone. One of the better medical decisions I've made for myself.

I have a severe stomach autoimmune disease and was on the non hormonal IUD (allergies to synthetic estrogen and all). And it was Hell towards the end. The first couple years were great but then I started bleeding randomly and my belly was killing me...got it out and within a week or so felt better.

I will always maintain that every body is completely different. Evident by the fact that some people hate Lupron and others have been on it for a while.

I had the copper IUD for six years and definitely didn’t have worse cramps or heavier bleeding.

Endo really makes sure that we are in tune with our bodies. I wish it wasn’t a trial and error things but we have to gather all the advice and make our own best decisions.

Luck!
